Alert: Avoid fake IRS scams

Beware of scam artists impersonating the IRS via e-mail. These e-mails are increasing in frequency as criminals get more creative and more desperate.

Have you ever seen an e-mail from the IRS asking for your credit card or debit card password and pin #'s so they may electronically deposit your refund?

It may look official, but it is bogus.

There are scam artists (impersonating the IRS) who are sending e-mails targeting taxpayers asking for banking and personal information.  The IRS does not send e-mail requesting your PIN numbers, passwords or similar access information for credit cards, banks or other financial accounts.

These scam artists are searching for their next victim to commmit a fraud and steal their identity.
